Our story

Art born from the land and its people

Papua New Guinea Paintings connects collectors worldwide with original works by artists whose roots run deep into the rainforests, highlands, and coastal villages of PNG.

Our mission

Why we exist

Papua New Guinea is home to more than 800 distinct languages and one of the most extraordinary concentrations of living culture on earth. Yet the artists who carry that culture — who paint the ceremonies, the landscapes, and the spirit world they were born into — have had almost no path to international collectors.

We started Papua New Guinea Paintings to change that. Every work in our collection is purchased directly from the artist at a fair price. We handle international shipping, provenance documentation, and customs so the artist can focus on painting and the collector can focus on the art.

A portion of every sale goes back into the communities we work with — funding art materials, supporting cultural festivals, and helping the next generation of PNG artists find their voice.

The artists

Meet the artists

Each artist brings a distinct regional voice — from the misty Eastern Highlands to the Sepik River basin and the Milne Bay coast.

Kila Mondo

Eastern Highlands Province

Kila Mondo

Oil on canvas

Kila grew up in the village of Kainantu, surrounded by the dramatic ridgelines of the Eastern Highlands. His large-format oil paintings capture the interplay of mist, mountain, and ceremony that defined his childhood. He studied at the National Arts School in Port Moresby before returning to paint full-time in his home province.

Miriam Tari

Milne Bay Province

Miriam Tari

Acrylic on canvas

Miriam is from the Trobriand Islands, where the ocean is as much a part of daily life as the land. Her acrylic works are vivid and rhythmic — outrigger canoes, reef patterns, and the faces of women at ceremony. She is one of the few female artists in our collection and one of the most sought-after.

Tobias Wapi

East Sepik Province

Tobias Wapi

Mixed media on canvas

Tobias comes from a family of master carvers on the Sepik River, and that lineage is visible in every painting — bold graphic forms, ancestral mask motifs, and the deep ochres and blacks of traditional Sepik pigments. His work bridges the ceremonial and the contemporary in a way that is entirely his own.

The process

How we work

01

Direct from the artist

We travel to PNG several times a year to meet artists in their home provinces, view new work, and agree on fair prices. No middlemen, no auction houses.

02

Documented provenance

Every painting leaves PNG with a signed certificate of provenance — artist name, title, medium, dimensions, and date — along with export documentation.

03

Professional packing & shipping

Works are rolled or crated by a specialist art shipper in Port Moresby and fully insured for international transit. Delivery to your door, anywhere in the world.

04

Ongoing relationship

We stay in contact with every artist we represent. When you buy a painting, you can ask us anything about the artist — and we can pass messages on.
